Toker

a little about me

8/23/25 – Toker recently had an abdominal ultrasound, which confirmed he does not have a liver shunt. He’s being referred to a veterinary dentist to rule out TMJ. Although his symptoms are mild, we want to ensure he’s in the best possible health before finding his forever home. Despite everything, Toker is a healthy, wonderful little guy who will bring joy to his adopted family!

7/28/25 – Toker showed some mild neurological symptoms, prompting us to conduct bile acid testing. The results were somewhat elevated, and he’s now being referred to an internal medicine specialist for further evaluation.

7/22/25 – Meet Toker! Estimated to be around 8 years young, he was surrendered to animal control after his previous owner couldn’t care for him. Luckily, he didn’t stay long—thanks to a helpful shelter manager, he found his way into a foster home with Yorkie Haven Rescue.

Toker is a laid-back pup who prefers a quiet household without children or active dogs. He enjoys simple pleasures — leisurely walks in the afternoons (with a harness and leash), relaxing in a cozy spot for TV time, and plenty of snuggles with his humans. He’s dependable with potty training when routines are consistent; initially, he may have accidents, but he learns quickly with patience.

While he’s more attached to foster mom, he’s also comfortable on foster dad’s lap (probably because he knows where the treats are hidden!). He loves his fenced backyard but is perfectly content to do his business on walks too. Greeting people on walks makes him happy, though he challenges and lunges at other dogs and bicycles—probably feeling a bit proud of himself when he’s being “tough,” knowing his foster mom will keep him in check.

When first arriving in a new home, Toker might be fixated on toys—his way of coping with new environments. Outside, he enjoys chasing squirrels and lizards, but he’s very in tune with his humans and will often do his business or head inside as soon as he sees you approaching the door.

Don’t bother buying many dog beds—Toker prefers sitting where his humans are! He’s a furniture sitter and loves being held, so if you’re into building your biceps, he’s your guy.

He’s not a big kisser, but he’s good with household noises like vacuums and garbage disposal, as long as it’s not overly loud or chaotic. Around grooming, he’s a little funny about his face, but that’s pretty normal for Yorkies.

Toker is very clingy and loves to be close to his people. When his humans leave to run errands, he’ll sometimes cry and carry on—but he’s caught on camera watching from the sofa and listening at the door, so he’s clearly very attached!

Recently, foster mom noticed a “tick-like” behavior from Toker—something she’s cautious about. She’s having him checked at the vet to ensure all is well. We’ll keep everyone updated on his health and findings.

If you’re looking for a sweet, loving companion who enjoys the simple things in life, Toker might just be your perfect match!
