Lexi

a little about me

Update on Lexi – July 30, 2025

Lexi recently visited the Internal Medicine team at CAVS and was diagnosed with early-stage kidney disease. She will continue on her current medication, Benazapril, and stay on her special K/D diet — which she LOVES!

As with humans, aging in pets brings certain health considerations. But that doesn’t mean her spirit or quality of life diminishes. Lexi is a vibrant, intelligent, sweet lady with many happy years ahead — just like all of us. She behaves like she feels perfectly fine, so we choose to keep her comfortable and cheerful.

To stay on top of her health, she’ll need bi-annual bloodwork, which will include checks of her urine protein, creatinine, and albumin levels. Think of it as a proactive way to keep her feeling her best — just like regular check-ups for us as we age.

Lexi loves her foster family and the other pups, though she’s not much for play — she prefers cuddling and relaxing. She would thrive in a calm home with children and furry companions, enjoying outdoor time when it’s not too hot, and cozy TV nights with her humans.

A big part of her happiness is sleeping in a human bed and receiving unconditional love and affection. Just look at that adorable face — it’s clear she’s ready to be your loyal and loving companion!

Background – July 21, 2025

Lexi was surrendered to YHR when her owners were displaced and couldn’t care for her anymore. During her initial vet visit, she was found to be very anemic—likely due to fleas at the time—and her blood and urine tests suggested possible kidney issues. She was started on a kidney-friendly diet and Benazapril, with some mild improvement. She’s now being referred to an Internal Medicine Specialist at Capital Area Veterinary Associates for further evaluation.

We are still getting to know Lexi and will share updates soon about her likes, dislikes, and medical progress. But one thing’s for sure — she’s an absolute angel. She loves attention, sleeping in bed with her humans, eating well, and generally has a very happy disposition. While she doesn’t play much with her foster siblings, she’s content and uninvolved.
